Hydrangeas

Hydrangea literally means: vessel of water.

These friendly flowers need plenty of water to keep their blooms, but they have a lot of personality. Most people know them for their soft bunches of color that often fade and change through the seasons. Depending on the acidity of the soil, these flowers may grow anywhere from pink to green and white or blue. As one article suggests, the colors can be altered by tampering with the soil - adding egg shells or coffee grounds to fade blooms to blue, and a bit of lime or alkaline fertilizer for pink.

With a bit of love, hydrangeas can add color and volume to your landscape.

See us at Bloom for our next shipment... we have hydrangeas on the way!

When opposites attract your eye

Have you ever wondered why red roses are so stunning?

It could be because of the romantic nature of the flower, or the elegant shape.

Most likely, it's because they seem to glow against their green backdrop.

Red and green are what are called complementary colors. They are opposites on the color wheel. When you're choosing flowers for your garden, this is one way to make the colors really glow.

Check this link for more information: Using color in flower gardens.

The next time you see a grouping of flowers and it looks amazingly gorgeous, pay attention to the colors... reds and greens, blues and oranges, purples and yellows.

Also an important note: when decorating, odd numbers are more aesthetically pleasing than evens. Try to stagger 3-5 plants for a more appealing and organic look to your gardens.

And don't forget...

Stop down and see us at Bloom for more gardening tips and start your garden today!
